What Becomes of Us?

Writer's picture: Charlotte Serwaa OwusuCharlotte Serwaa Owusu

One in sixty-five days she learnt a beautiful lesson

A beautiful memoir indeed she now has!

Life sent her on an adventure and we have been waiting for her,

to return from this trip- her daymare!

Let us wipe our tears, pretending as though she has not been abandoned by her escort

As though love has not led her on a wild goose chase, again

Let me shiver, it is her escort we are talking about

Let me take a step back, it is love extending a hand

No, thank you! Today we will not sit at the table of lovers.

The lessons have been learnt.

Oh yes, a deterrent has been served.

You said you were never going to leave, why now?

Oh! Forgive me

The arrows they shot are much to take.

The grounds are too dry for your cultivation

The branches are withering, the trees are dying

And you have no strength to water them

I realised

What happened to our ‘one day at a time’?

What happened to our ‘we're going to be fine’?

Tell me when things went south and I will let you go north

to bring it back

Find it not and I will give you up

I will say my Goodbyes, my Adios and my Au revoirs

After all, what is there to fear?
