The Walking Blanket

Writer's picture: Charlotte Serwaa OwusuCharlotte Serwaa Owusu

On her cold empty nights of despair,

filled with tears of the known and fears of the unknown,

the calls of her own name sent shivers down her dislocated spine.

Thoughts running helter-skelter through her shambled mind

sent chills down her feeble bones.

With all hopelessness in those frightening moments,

in the spur of one unexpected moment, her walking blanket was found

Amidst the darkness in her world, a priceless gift fell from the sky.

Manna from the heavens to feed her hungry soul till she wanted no more;

Manna to save a life in record time.

Distraught in his own world

Lost in the thoughts of his own affairs, his time was due,

To provide warmth for her cold and almost shattered soul.

Presented with the luxury of walking away

or the audacity to run away,

He chose none

None, so to save a soul

None, so to do his bidding to humanity,

without regards for his own imperfections,

without regards for the tatters the world saw,

And without regards for what the world would say.
