Occurrences

Writer's picture: Charlotte Serwaa OwusuCharlotte Serwaa Owusu

Rainbow greeted Day with smiles The wind shook the hands of Nature with style The day was on a rebound which we had no idea of Settling to sit across the room, he faced us without regret Well-poised and ready to feed our minds but not our spirits

To feed us with what I called lies and what he called natural occurrences Occurrences which made us toil from dawn Riding into the heart of dusk without profit To cater for souls that looked up to us

Nature burst into chains of laughter at how funny he looked into our eyes And how appalling he pierced our hearts with his "lies-turned-occurrences" With guts, he shouted, "Press on" With vigour, he said, "Hold on tight"

Even though we are falling off this boat with time This boat whose anchor was weak from the start

My spirit was awed at his mundane thoughts Who was I to laugh, as he made a mockery of himself? Oh Day, you did not have to come this far To display your ignorance of our pain

Drawing more sketches of his indifference He kept on blabbing amidst charming smiles Putting on my vest of insouciance I trotted out of this insult Off to shoot some baskets

Day presented too much deceit like a politician An imagination of Night's edition is a lullaby that can never put us to peaceful sleep Reminding me of what the Father whispered to us in His Good Books Indeed rest was in Him only
